A steady hand alongside the owner, not above them
We started Andalan because small business owners in Johor deserved thoughtful, respectful advisory support — not scripted programmes or high-pressure consulting.

How Andalan Began
Andalan was founded in Skudai, Johor by advisors who had spent years working inside large organisations — and who kept noticing the same thing. The small business owner, sitting at the centre of everything, rarely had anyone to think alongside them without an agenda.
Accountants came in at year-end. Bankers came when they had something to sell. Consultants arrived with slide decks shaped before they had listened. What was missing was simpler: a considered, ongoing relationship with someone who asked good questions and kept the owner's interests central.
We opened our Taman Nusa Bestari office in early 2020 with three advisory engagements and a simple working principle — advice follows listening, not the other way around. That principle has not changed.
Our Mission
To offer small business owners in Malaysia a calm, reliable thinking partner who respects their pace, their circumstances, and their right to make their own decisions.
Our Values
- Patience. We do not rush to conclusions or push owners toward decisions before they are ready.
- Honesty. We share what we see plainly, including things that may be uncomfortable.
- Discretion. What is shared with us remains with us.
- Practicality. Every suggestion is weighed against what is actually possible in your situation.
Our Advisors
A small team, by design. We believe the owner-advisor relationship works best when it is personal and consistent.
Hairul Azman
Principal Advisor
Hairul brings over eighteen years working in SME finance and business development across Johor and Kuala Lumpur. He founded Andalan with the belief that small business owners deserve the same quality of advisory attention that larger companies take for granted.
Nurul Raziah
Operations & Client Liaison
Nurul manages the day-to-day rhythm of Andalan's client engagements, ensuring every owner who works with us feels well-attended to between sessions. She also supports the preparation of written plans and summaries.
Zulkifli Ibrahim
Financial Advisory Specialist
Zulkifli focuses on the financial dimension of advisory work — reviewing accounts, interpreting trends, and helping owners understand what the numbers are telling them without overwhelming them with jargon.
Our Working Standards
The consistency of our approach matters as much as the advice itself. These are the standards we hold ourselves to across every engagement.
Client Confidentiality
All information shared in our sessions — financial, operational, or personal — is held in strict confidence and never shared with third parties without explicit consent.
Documented Outcomes
Every engagement results in written notes or plans. We believe what is written is more useful than what is remembered, and every owner leaves with something they can return to.
Consistent Advisor Relationship
You work with the same advisor throughout your engagement. We do not rotate you across staff or assign you to a junior team member after the first meeting.
Evidence-Based Suggestions
Our observations are drawn from your actual numbers and circumstances. We do not apply generic frameworks without first understanding what is specific to your business.
Reliable Scheduling
Sessions are held at the agreed time. If we need to reschedule, we give adequate notice and offer alternatives. We respect that your time as a business owner is limited.
Data Protection Compliance
Client information is stored securely in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010. We collect only what is needed and retain it only for as long as the engagement requires.
What We Bring
Advisory Built on Local Knowledge
Small business advisory in Malaysia carries its own particular demands. The mix of family-run operations, multi-generational ownership, and the specific pressures of the Johor market — proximity to Singapore, cross-border trade, and a competitive landscape across manufacturing, retail, and services — means that advice borrowed from international playbooks rarely fits without adjustment.
Andalan was built from within that context. Our advisors have worked with owner-managed businesses in Johor Bahru, Skudai, Kluang, Batu Pahat, and the surrounding townships. We understand the seasonal rhythms of local trade, the relationship-driven nature of supplier networks, and the personal weight that business decisions carry when the owner is also the primary breadwinner.
Our advisory engagements span operational review, financial planning, team structure, and market positioning — but always anchored in what the owner wants for themselves and their business, not in what looks good on a report. We measure our usefulness by whether the owner feels steadier and clearer after working with us, not by the thickness of the documents we produce.
